After collaborating successfully on several projects, DOMUSVI has once again chosen IDEC GRAND SUD’s teams to build an extension to a nursing home and refurbish an existing part of the building.Work on the extension began in December 2021 and delivery is scheduled for November 2022.The refurbishment work will take place in several phases, the first of which will begin in June 2022 and stretch to June 2023.
Armel was a work-study student at IDEC for two years where he worked on the STOCKOMANI worksite in Venette (60) and the ADEO worksite in Fos-sur-Mer (13). After completing this work-study program, Armel took advantage of an internal mobility opportunity within GROUPE IDEC to join IDEC GRAND SUD in January 2022 as a Works Supervisor. “At IDEC, I mainly worked on logistics warehouses built out of concrete, timber and metal structures. With IDEC GRAND SUD I discovered the world of structural work that I had learned about through my studies” explains Armel.
For this project, Armel is working with Jonathan, senior works supervisor at IDEC GRAND SUD, who has already completed several nursing home projects for DOMUSVI.
22 additional beds for this nursing home
This extension will accommodate 22 additional beds and covers a surface area of approximately 600 m² on the ground floor and 470 m² on the first floor, in addition to a covered terrace of 50 m². “The distinctive feature of this extension is that all the beds on the ground floor, i.e. 12 beds, are adapted rooms intended for a Protected Unit for Disoriented Persons (UPPD)” explains Armel. The extension includes a dining room and a lounge on the ground floor, as well as a lounge and an activity room with a therapeutic kitchen on the first floor. “As requested by the client, we also provided oversized foundations for the extension to accommodate an additional story” adds Armel.
A temporary relocation operation on an occupied site
The teams of IDEC GRAND SUD started the works with the construction of the extension. Once this has been delivered, as many residents as possible will be transferred into it so that the teams can begin the renovation work on the existing building. “For the extension, we marked out a construction area so that we could work without any problems. However, for the renovation part, we are going to be working on an occupied site, which is always more difficult. We will carry out the work in phases and we will mark out the work areas with firebreak partitions so that we can work without disturbing the residents”.
The extension under construction
Work on the extension began in December 2021. “The earthwork, foundations, walls and the high floor of the first story are 100% cast.We are currently working on the walls of the first story, as well as the model bedroom”, explains Armel. The teams will then begin the refurbishment and extension of the reception area followed by the existing bedrooms in September for delivery targeted for June 2023.
